Kayla's Corner, Week of May the 4th: Concert on the C-town Square; Eagles Tribute Band in Monroe; Fairies & More

http://www.thepiedmontchronicles.com/p/contributing-writer-kayla-leasure.html

Welcome back to the corner, y'all, and let's get grooving! Lots of entertainment this week and we're starting it off Thursday during your lunch break - Come out and catch the Biggers Family Band playing good old gospel and country music right here in the heart of Covington, our beloved downtown square! Kick back relax and enjoy the tunes.

I had a chance to talk with TPC Editor MB McCart, who's married into the Biggers & is the lead guitarist of their family band, about what we can expect:

Pretty much, think the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou." Lots of the ole timey gospel songs one might hear on the "Pappy O'Daniel Radio Hour." It's a full, lush sound. 4 guitars, bass, banjo, dobro & mandolin, and with SEVEN vocalists! I think it's gonna be quite the show...
Sounds great! Show starts at 12 noon, and that's Thursday the 2nd.

Okay guys, normally I try to stick to Newton county events however sometimes I'll branch out just a little bit for cool events to attend that may be the next county over, but still a part of that "Glorious Georgia Piedmont."

This Friday at 7 p.m., On the Border, billed as the ultimate Eagles tribute, is a group that is critically acclaimed for their precise replication of all your favorites from this legendary band. The show will be held downtown in Monroe on the historic Walton county courthouse lawn. They will be grooving until 10 p.m. so make sure to come and check 'em out!

The downtown square in Monroe has changed quite a bit and for the better if you haven't been there lately. I recommend checking it out as it has greatly expanded and has been climbing the ladder these last couple years and I'm proud to say that's where I was born and raised!

Okay, let's get back to Covington. If you believe in magic or you need a little more magic in your life make sure to come out to the fairy house festival that will be held at Chimney Park on Saturday from 2 to 5 PM. Come explore this beautiful place and see some of the creative fairy houses in decor that local children and adults have worked hard on. There's lots of opportunities for fun so bring your little one!

Just to ensure you have a great Cinco de Mayo this Sunday, when wrapping up your weekend you should stop by for some margarita supplies. Newton Package will be carrying all your favorite Jose Cuervo pre-made flavors as well as lots of tequila to choose from!

Come Shop NPS's Excellent Selection!

Also, there will be a few local bars hosting events, including Five O'Clock Sports Bar & Grill, and of course the traditional stop by El Charro! Y'all make sure to stay safe and have a good time.

Thanks for reading. See y'all next time!
