[Perrin Lovett] - A Week of Miracles: Paris Out of the Ashes; Tiger Roars Again at Augusta & Perrin Storms C-Town

This column addresses three topics of great importance, in reverse chronological order. The originally intended subject comes last, after two of perhaps greater relevance and general interest. This is good stuff (great, even); read on:

International Desk: Only the Building Burned. The Church is Adamant, the French Spirit Indomitable.

You’ve heard the news. The world knows. Paris’s landmark, 850-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral suffered extensive fire damage on Monday, April 15th.

I learned of the tragedy while, of all things, leading a discussion en Français with a group of talented young people. My first thought was, “that’s a maintenance accident!” Thus I thought because the inferno was emanating from the roof and attic. And, I’ve seen this exact scenario before in Athens, Georgia, of all places.

On a summer day in 1995, I traversed North Campus. Smoke I smelled and then saw. Brooks Hall, then home to the Terry College of Business (the same MB goes on about) was burning. Bad. They had been conducting roof renovations and some jackleg ignited the attic whilst welding. We lost two floors that day.

So it most likely was in Paris. Notre Dame’s roof is a thin cladding of lead over centuries-old timber framing. Dry, dry, dry wood possibly treated with pitch or tar(?). The lead requires soldering from time to time but they have to be extra careful given what lies beneath. On Monday something slipped. Bad. You know the deal - the central spire collapsed, the roof is gone, and complete destruction was narrowly averted by 500 doggedly determined firemen.

I am not yet ready to embrace any theory aside from this obvious scenario. Yes, I’ve seen some pictures. And, y’all know I have a keen sense of affairs and a vivid imagination. As is, I don’t (yet) buy the Islamic Jihad or false flag angles. I have, however, sensed a tremor in the force of Western Civilization.

Little Benny Shapiro earned every bit of ire ever directed his tiny, 5-foot 2-inch, idiotic, yarmulke-wearing, Trotskyite, anti-Western, anti-Christian, snake-tongued-lying way with a single fool’s Tweet (in response to an impassioned plea from President Trump):

He perhaps revealed a little more than his idiocy. Dipshit Benny/Twitter.

Others of Benny’s kind instantaneously heaped the fuel of anti-Messianic hatred on the fire of French pain. Literally, to hell with them. And, too, with those of the Mohammedan variety who celebrated in the streets and smiley-faced and hearted on the socials. To hell with, again, with the degenerates of homogeneous globalism, of Macron and his vow to rebuild “in a way consistent with our modern diverse nation.” This isn’t their hour, any of them. This is our time ... of the Phoenix.

Joyful news broke that the damage was contained. Numerous invaluable relics were rescued, either by good fortune or by first responders. Fire brigade chaplain Fr. Jean-Marc Fournier personally saved the Crown of Thorns thought to have been worn by Christ.

Fr. Fournier ‘showing no fear.’ Loraillere/Daily Mail (UK).

*Une note spéciale,
La Cathédrale sera reconstruite. La Nation sera reconstruite. Que Dieu protège les gilets jaunes. Puisse Dieu sortir les hordes. Dieu sauve la Chrétienté et la France!

Notre Dame will be rebuilt in a manner of glory consistent with French values. With Catholic values. With Western values. With those and those alone. So too, shall France and the West rise again. If the destruction of the church building of wood and stone was a metaphor for the late fall of Christendom, then we’ve already seen a Divine sign of promise and redemption:

Hope amidst the wreckage. The altar candles didn’t even melt! Picture from Chateau Heartiste.

This photograph demonstrates the age-old fact that We cannot be beaten, because He cannot be beaten. We are told: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against It.” (Matthew 16:17). Period. Joke on that, Shapiro Wormtongue.

Sports Desk (I have several desks): Glory in Augusta! Tiger Woods Wins Fifth Green Jacket Via Incredible Cinderella Comeback for the Ages.

Sunday, I drove from Covington to the Augusta area (to the “CSRA” of Augusta-speak). And, what a drive it was - deftly navigating a slew of tornadic turbulence. There were multiple wrecks, dozens of downed trees, inches of standing water, and blinding rain. Yet, I persevered. But, not like the man on the radio - a man camly determined to beat all odds and to secure a greater place in sports history. More on him in a second.

The 2019 Masters Tournament ended Sunday, the 14th, after a record NINE days! of play and practice. The previous Saturday, lovely Jennifer Kupcho won the inaugural Women’s Amateur Championship. Martha Burke, peace, be still. The fun continued the following day with the Sixth iteration of the National Drive, Chip, and Putt Finals. Congratulations to young Miss Angela Zhang and all other impressive winners!

Then, came something we haven’t seen in fourteen years - the Tiger show at the National. Putting aside the pain, the past, the former 1,500th ranking, and most importantly, his own emotions, Woods drove quietly though mightily for four days. On Sunday, as I sat at a rest area on I-20, he captured his fifth Masters victory, 13 under par.

This feat, comparable to Jack’s 1986 “old man’s miracle”, was beyond impressive. Love him or hate him, Woods once again proved he’s the best thing in golf. Tiger Woods had mastered and defeated his greatest opponent, Tiger Woods. Not too bad for a guy my age.

*Que Dieu guide et protège les golfeurs.

And, why was I on I-20? Well...

On The Road: Perrin Visits Covington, Mayhem Ensues…

For a year now, I’ve crafted these tales of the affairs that grip, shake, frighten, and soothe a Nation. I thought it was high time for a visit with headquarters.

I caught old MB hard at work teaching the next generation of real estate professionals.

And, the wisdom flowed. Pic by Perrin.

Good luck to all the prospective pros! And, thank you “Amy” for humoring yours truly. Call me…

A whirlwind of smoke and booze lead us through Cork, City Pharmacy, and a high school prom. At last, we arrived at Casa Da.

Left meets Right … in the street. Perrin.

We had a swell time. I finally got to smoke a cigar with Ellis. I’m already looking forward to the next time. Thank you for the excellent hospitality, Sir.

This grouping was as dangerous as it looks. PL.

Next, we were off to Amici and a meeting with the one and only Miss Kayla! I thought I had found “The Korner” but they informed me I was merely intoxicated. Yes, she’s just as sweet and pretty as you all imagine.

Bookends of beauty, books of … us... L-R: Kayla, MB, CFF’s Man o' the Road, Kayla’s darling friend. Another Pic by Master P.

The rest of the evening was a little fuzzy. We had pulled pork. I tried to broker a record deal at The Depot. Someone really should have given us water instead. A meeting with Jim Beam, a short walk, and a harrowing run from the police and we were back at TPC high command.

In the end, I think we agreed it was time to pay the C.F. Floyd a visit. We agreed on something. I admit that I greatly missed not meeting Bess and Melissa (next time, ladies!). I did, however, meet Marshall’s secret weapon and, undoubtedly, the driving force behind TPC’s enduring success:

Vixen, the world’s most lethal cat. Yet ANOTHER Pic by Me.

*Ed. Note: It's true. Vixen is the Publisher/GM/CEO of TPC

*Dieu aide Covington...

And so it was: a mad man in a mad town. Now, you know the real story, if any.

*No cats, Realtors®, prom queens, golfers, writers, microscopic neocon-artists, or disc jockeys were harmed in the production of this tripe. Readers? Sorry, couldn’t be helped.

Newton Dems Meet; Two Congressional Candidates in Attendance

The Piedmont Chronicles
Your Source for the REAL Story

[State of GA]

[Newton Co.]

(Covington, GA | 3/27/18) -

Newton Dems' Chairman Phil Johnson preparing to begin the meeting

The Newton Co. Democratic Committee held its regular monthly meeting Monday night, the 26th, at  NewRock Academy with several members in attendance. The group had a busy agenda, including covering qualifications of candidates of the local party, most notably the much discussed & highly anticipated 4-man race for the 2nd District of the Board of Commissioners.

Juan Parks, candidate for GA-4

Also in attendance were two candidates for federal office.

Juan Parks, as nice a guy as you'll likely meet on the campaign trail, is a declared candidate for representative of Georgia's 4th Congressional district. In what is probably an uphill climb to unseat Mr. Guam himself, Hank Johnson, I think Juan has a legitimate shot. He's a military guy, has a strong work ethic, is very personable & knows the issues. Plus, he's pretty similar to yours truly in terms of political philosophy. First off, he's pro-2nd amendment, and he does lean libertarian on some issues. I will gladly vote for him come November if he makes it, and honestly, I'm contemplating pulling a Democratic ballot in a primary for only the 2nd time in my life, basically, solely, because of him. I've been following his Facebook page for a bit now. He's legit, y'all.

10th Congressional District Democratic Candidate Chalis Montgomery

Chalis Montgomery, candidate for GA 10, is also an impressive candidate. While I may not be as similar to her on the issues as I am with Mr. Parks, I can, however, appreciate the convictions she has in her beliefs, not unlike the way I maybe feel about Auburn fans. She's likely what some might describe as a true progressive. I am, actually, in agreement with her on certain issues. As many of you know, I am a Freedom & Liberty guy, and there IS an intersection of overlapping common ground there. I'll never forget taking one of those presidential tests in 2016 that showed, naturally, Rand Paul as my number one pick, but had Bernie as my second.

Like Parks, Montgomery is facing an uphill climb, at least as it relates to the general in November & I would be shocked if she doesn't advance in the primary against Richard Winfield. A Bethlehem, GA resident & piano teacher, Ms. Montgomery is a very nice & intelligent woman, and a good candidate. I swapped contact info with her press director & hope to have an interview with her in this space sometime soon.

Montgomery on the Trail

So now let's talk about that exciting BOC 2 race here in the home county. A crowded field, no doubt, the smart money seems to be on former NCRC member, fellow Newton Ram & middle school coach & teacher Steven Rhodes being a lock for what most certainly will likely be a run-off. Rhodes is good people, and he seems to be racking up a lot of endorsements, including, per the word, the 2nd district incumbent, Lanier Sims. But who else will make the cut? Former commissioner Earnest Simmons might seem to be a pick, but perhaps there is a reason why he is, after all, a former commissioner. Never heard of Demond Mason. I have no clue who he is. And what of Antonio Ross? A member of the Tonto Network claims that Ross is the WTC candidate. I honestly have no idea. But can we all just agree that this fella looks like Rocky & Apollo Creed's trainer/manager, Duke?

And I'm still planning on breaking down the Governor's race on the Democratic side - The Battle of the Two Stacys, as it were. So stay tuned for that.

Till next time, friends.

3/25/18: The Sunday Edition - GA Governor's Race; Go You Silver Britches!

Your Source for the REAL Story

The Sunday Edition: 3/25/18

Howdy, folks. Hope it's nice out there, and welcome back to another Sunday Edition of TPC.

- LOCAL ADVERTISER -

Handicapping the GA Governor's Race

I know some of you are thinking that I'm a little early for this, but trust us - we're not. Even though it's been four years since the Gold Dome moved up the primary season in Georgia, a lot of folks haven't wrapped their minds around the fact that we are LESS THAN 60 DAYS from the primary. Yes, that's right. May 22nd is the day, and it's barreling down on us rather quickly.

The Presumed Front-runner

We're talking about Casey Cagle here, folks, and I added the "presumed" only because of what has transpired the past few weeks. Whether it was the unkind news coverage about his full-on moron move with the Delta & NRA situation, or the fact that the state press has been talking about what many of us have known for years (he places political revenge over helping Georgians), Cagle seems intent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. On top of that, he's just weird looking, what with those buggy eyes & all, and he looks like the textbook definition of a political hack.

The Second Tier (in order)

Hunter Hill, State Senator & Army Vet, is, at least according to one poll, the number 2 in this race. This actually doesn't come as that big of a surprise to those of us with our ears to the ground of statewide politics. Hill is a very good candidate with little to no baggage & has a statewide structure & framework that's probably the envy of everyone else in this race. Hill is one of two men running that TPC is considering endorsing in this race.

GA Secretary of State Brian Kemp's lack of traction in this race has a lot of politicos scratching their heads. Part of the problem - really, the main part - is that unlike Mr. Hill, Kemp does have some baggage and negative perception problems. Whether it was shipping out the personal data of upwards of 8 million Georgians, or the curious case of the wiped-clean computer servers, whether fair or not, Mr. Kemp is battling that as much as he is trying to get his lackluster poll numbers up. And perhaps those two problems are related. In other news, the sun still set to rise from the east tomorrow...

The Dark Horse

Clay Tippins, the other candidate that TPC may endorse in this thing, and the only candidate supporting expanding cannabis oil. This guys seems like the real deal.

The Also-ran

Michael Williams, the "Trump candidate." No traction; no real poll numbers; no campaign structure. He'll likely finish in a distant 5th place.

Go You Silver Britches!

25 March 2018

And we're back...

A bit of a layoff there, folks. Sorry about that. But the big news is that GYSB is back in action.

Why the long break? That's a good question & I'm glad you asked. The usual suspects. Laziness, maybe. But not really. I've just been really busy. Plus, I pretty much stayed drunk there for a few years, so there's that, too.

I've been concentrating on my main writing project, The Piedmont Chronicles. It's an online newspaper that covers the glorious Georgia Piedmont, and the city of Covington & Newton Co. in particular. Originally just a personal blog where I concentrated on local history & people, it has now became a full-blown thing with local advertisers & everything. I've told my readership there that a relaunching of Go You Silver Britches! was imminent as the main part of the new Sports Division of TPC. We're really excited about it & hope you are too!

The Sunday Treatment

New UGA Hoop Dawgs Head Man Tom Crean
This is typically kind of a slow time of the year for UGA athletics, but this year is a little different for a few reasons.

The biggest of which, naturally, is that while we're not talking about UGA Hoops in the NCAA tourney, as usual, we are definitely talking about UGA Hoops in the month of March. That's because we've got a new head coach that most everybody is pretty pumped about. Tom Crean, by all accounts, is truly a top-tier coach. With a high level of success at his previous two stops - Marquette & Indiana - there's a palpable sense of excitement surrounding the UGA B-ball program that we haven't seen in the Classic City since...well, probably since we hired Mark Fox in 2009.

With the level of talent we have in the great state of Georgia & now with a coach of Crean's caliber, there should be no reason at all, in our estimation, for the Hoop Dawgs not to make it to the Big Dance almost every year and to advance at least a couple of rounds on a fairly frequent basis.
Diamond Dogs Skip, Manager Stricklin
Switching gears to baseball, the UGA Diamond Dogs have been impressing folks so far this year. A 17-6 regular record with a 4-1 conference mark approx. a third of the way through the season has some wondering if AD McGarity was right to bring Scott Stricklin back after three underwhelming seasons at the helm. Although we're just underway in conference play, it does look like this edition of the Diamond Dawgs has the potential to do something this year. We'll keep an eye on it.

And enough with the filler stuff, the UGA football spring game - G-Day - is less than a month away. April 21, 2018 can't get here soon enough for a lot of us. Many are anxiously awaiting seeing some action from some of the players of the consensus top recruiting class in the country. And Justin Fields, though! Very exciting.

A Trip Around the Dawgosphere

Welp, that'll do it for this go 'round, gang. Thanks for reading. No promises moving forward than this: you WILL be able to count on the Sunday Treatment every Sunday, and hopefully a few other write-ups here & there. Til next time.

Your Pal,

MBM

Local Business Spotlight: Travis Moore, Broker Associate with Hometown Realty Consultants, Inc.

Travis Moore has developed a well-earned reputation as one of the Georgia Piedmont's premier real estate agents. Specializing in residential, land & commercial, the secret of his success, to quote John D Rockefeller Jr., "is to do the common things uncommonly well," with an emphasis on hard work, superior customer service, honesty & fair dealing.

Moore's license hangs with Hometown Realty Consultants, a local independent brokerage firm that is "small in size, but BIG on customer service." In fact, their 3 keys to success are: customer service, customer service & more customer service. And it helps that this firm is like a tightly knit family. "We're a team," Moore told this writer. "We all have each other's backs...if one of us needs a helping hand, another of us will be there for them. Many hands make light work." That sense of family, Travis tells us, has been instilled into the essence of Hometown Realty by its founders & owners, Kenneth & Darlene Smallwood.

When interviewing Travis for this piece, a definite theme emerged. Like the previous quote about the secret of success, there is no substitute for handling the basic things in an efficient matter. Perhaps one of the biggest things is a simple one - "just answering the phone, and if you can't do that, then call somebody back" Often times, not returning calls is something that us real estate folks can sometimes get accused of. And it really is vital. As a 22-year real estate veteran I can truly say - staying on top of communications is key, but can be tough to do. It's sort of a multitasking juggling act, and Moore's ability to pull off that feat comes as no surprise to many who know him.

Not unlike your semi-esteemed editor, Mr. Moore is a man of many hats who has a knack for taking care of business even with multiple irons in the fire. In addition to his realty business, he handles some two dozen rental properties. He's also an Ice Man, as he's involved with several of the self-service ice machines you see around town, including the newest one at Hwy 11 & Hwy 142. A long-time EMT, Travis still does at least 3 or 4 shifts a month on the ambulance with Piedmont Healthcare. Also, Travis helps out his lovely wife Lindsey with her boutique fitness center, Moxie Fitness.

Again, it's Moore's ability to handle multiple things and that impressive work ethic & his continuous quest to provide the best customer service possible that really sets him apart. And it's been paying of for this fella. 2017 was a banner year for him in real estate sales, his best one yet. Also, it was recently announced that Travis will eventually be taking over Hometown Realty as the Qualifying Broker.

When interviewing Travis for this piece, I asked one final question:

"Why do you love real estate & real estate sales?"

His answer was a great one:

"First off, I just love helping people. I really do. And for most folks, the purchase of their home is the single biggest investment they'll ever make...it is the American Dream. To be able to help make that a reality...well, I love it! And I love the DEAL, too! Making it work, putting it all together, getting it over the finish line. It's great."

And folks, I'm here to tell you - that's what you want out of a real estate agent. And one final thought: I've known Travis Moore for several years. He's as good a fella as you'll ever find. For those who know his family, and especially his Dad, you know that he comes by that hard work ethic & strong moral code honestly. He is, as we say here in the South, good people!

Call Travis today for a free CMA and consult on your home, investment property or raw land.

Alright guys. Thanks so much for reading, we really appreciate it. Until we meet again.
