City Pharmacy Sunday (April 28) Social: Art of Lesley Daunt & Candice Dean; Music by Pony League

It's the last Sunday of the month so that means our friends over at City Pharmacy have another top-notch Sunday Social planned for you good people. Happening from 5 to 8pm on Sunday the 28th, for $15 patrons will have the ability to hear the Americana magic of ATL-based Pony League, as well as appreciate the works of two of the Georgia Piedmont's most impressive artists - Lesley Daunt & Candice Dean - while enjoying beverages & the some of the best food you'll find east of the big city. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Arts Association of Newton Co.

1105 Church St. Covington, GA

Pony League has been turning heads for quite some time now & after hearing their stuff, it's no secret as to why. They're really, really good. I had a chance to catch up w/ Gus from the band:

Describe your sound to our audience. Style, genre, influences. What are y'all spinning these days (h/t to Melissa M. Parker)? Who do you guys like?

We call ourselves an Americana band when we wanna keep it simple. We use a blend of piano, acoustic, and electric guitar backed by big loud drums to tell stories that reflect our experiences. Think Bruce Hornsby and The Range meets Jackson Browne, but with a more modern urgency.

I (Gus) have been listening to lots of Brent Cobb lately. Also, Kacey Musgraves writes some incredible songs (ed. note: I'm w/ you, Gus. She's marvelous!). There are a wide variety of influences in the band, though. Justin our acoustic guitarist has been listening to a lot of Better Oblivion Community Center, the new project from Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst. Our drummer Jay's favorite band is The Hold Steady. Our lead guitarist, Charlie prays at the alter of Stevie Ray Vaughn, and our bassist Mason is our punk rock resource.

What can the good folks in Covington expect from Sunday's set list?

We'll be playing a lot of material from our most recent album, "A Picture of Your Family," which came out last March, but we'll also throw in some of our favorite cover songs. You'll have to come to find out which ones. Definitely gonna play our ode to former Atlanta Brave, "Harder Than A Rick Ankiel."

Lesley Daunt is a true Renaissance woman. In addition to being a superb singer, songrwiter & guitar player, she is an absolutely magnificent artist & will be featuring her "Music is Iconic" series with paintings of music artists who are iconic to her "From Frank Sinatra to Marilyn Manson & many in between."

Candice Dean is a living legend in & around C-town & the only bartender I've ever written a song about! She, too, is a woman of many, many talents. She works with multiple media in her artistic endeavors including paints, acrylic, resin pieces, reclamation art & furniture restorations. Candice will have multiple pieces at City Pharmacy, including one of her furniture pieces.
